Grahams win coveted spirit award at
Georgia's Stone Mountain Highland Games
October 15-17, 2010

Clan Graham is honored to win the Ken MacKenzie Award for Clan Spirit at the 38th annual Stone Mountain Highland Games, which took place during October 15-17, 2010, in Georgia.

During the Clan March, the winner of this prestigious award was announced and Jason Graham of Tucker, Georgia, went up to collect the award for us, a giant trophy cup that we can display for a year and a handsome plate that we can keep for future display. Jason organizes the children’s games for this event and so he and his wife, Angela, are very popular with all children.

Chieftain Richard Graham and his wife, Kate, hosted the clan tent as usual at the games. They welcomed many from Georgia and Tennessee as well as their own family. Cliff Fitzsimmons, Clan Graham Society Membership Vice President, and Jeremy Dick, Treasurer, were also there with their families, as well as Highland dancer Katelyn Fraker and her mother Susan Fraker and grandmother Sue Graham.

Katelyn did very well in the dancing competitions again, proving that the scholarship she received from the Society last year was well worth it. She represented Clan Graham in the “11 and under premier class.” On Saturday, October 16, the dancers performed three Highland dances—Fling, Sword, Seann Triubhas—and two national dances—Highland Laddie and the Jig. Katelyn won enough first and second places to have the highest score and win the trophy in her age group. With fall competitions over, Katelyn begins a period of intense preparation for spring competitions with the goal of qualifying for the United States championship for a third year.

Overall, it was a great time at the games as the Grahams enjoyed a winning streak last fall.
