Here is everything you need to know about planning to attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) this year! Join fellow Society members along with the Duke and Duchess of Montrose for a fun-filled and memorable event. Please register by April 23, 2012, with Kiersten Graham Dick, Member-at-Large. The official registration form, daily schedule and contact list is also downloadable HERE.
MEET THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OF MONTROSE
Meet the Duke and Duchess of Montrose and members of the Clan Graham Society at this year’s Annual General Meeting in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. The AGM coincides with the Smoky Mountain Highland Games (SMHG), where our very own Cliff Fitzsimmons, Vice President of Membership, is the SMHG President. With a rare and special appearance by our Chief, His Grace the Duke of Montrose, Clan Graham hopes to be well represented at the games. Please register by April 23 with Kiersten Graham Dick, Member-at-Large.
400TH ANNIVERSARY OF JAMES GRAHAM,
THE GREAT MARQUIS OF MONTROSE
The year 2012 marks the 400th anniversary of the birth of James Graham, the Great Marquis of Montrose (1612-1650), our Chief’s ancestor. This year’s AGM will be an extraordinary opportunity to meet His and Her Grace in person, honor the Great Marquis, reunite with fellow Society members, make new friends, see the picturesque Smoky Mountains and show our Clan Graham pride!
AGM OFFICIAL HEADQUARTERS:
RUBY TUESDAY LODGE AND INN
All AGM activities, officers meetings, banquet, departure coordination and informal gatherings will be at the impressive Ruby Tuesday Lodge and Inn in Maryville, Tennessee. The RT Lodge is beautifully appointed and located on the Maryville College campus, within walking distance to the games. Rooms are neat, comfortable and designed to encourage guests to mingle in the open areas. Rooms are limited. So you are encouraged to reserve your room as soon as possible by contacting Jeremy Dick, Treasurer.
MARYVILLE COLLEGE LOCATION AND TOUR
Maryville, Tennessee, is 20 miles south of Knoxville and was listed as one of the “Top Ten Cities to Have It All” by the cable channel A&E. Founded in 1819, Maryville College is in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains and is one of the 50 oldest colleges in the United States. A campus tour will be led on Thursday afternoon at no charge. The Maryville College “Scots” are proud to share their heritage with you. The campus and games are within walking distance. For those who prefer transportation, shuttle service will be available, with 15 maximum passengers per trip.
PIGEON FORGE SHOPPING AND TITANIC MUSEUM
Pigeon Forge is a favorite Southeastern vacation spot for its beauty, shopping, attractions and entertainment. A shuttle will leave on Thursday for those interested in shopping or attending the interactive Titanic Museum. Advance tickets for the Titanic Museum are suggested and are not available via the Clan Graham.
GOLF TOURNAMENT WITH CLAN HAY
Golfers, bring your clubs! Our AGM golf tournament will be held with Clan Hay at the Royal Oaks Golf Club, approximately 15-20 minutes away from RT Lodge. An invitation will also be extended to the House of Gordon, the 2011 winner of the Montrose Trophy in California. Format will be Captain’s Choice with an 8:45 a.m. Shotgun Start. Teams will be arranged to attempt parity and randomly placed in one of two flights, “Braes” or “Burns”. Cost includes lunch after the tournament, flight prizes and tee prize closest to the hole. Scottish attire invited for both lads and lassies. Club rentals are possible for 4 to 5 players by reserving via Jeremy Dick, Treasurer. Jeremy would appreciate early registration by golfers.
GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS PARK TOUR
Bring your camera! The world-renowned Great Smoky Mountains straddle the border between North Carolina and Tennessee. A tour of the Great Smoky Mountains Park, America’s most visited park, is on Friday. The tour will include stops at the Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center in Townsend and the historic pioneer settlement, Cades Cove. Cost includes a sack lunch. Cades Cove Story and Self Guided Auto Tour Booklets available via their website.
THE SMOKY MOUNTAIN HIGHLAND GAMES
The Smoky Mountain Highland Games are full of entertainment, athletics, dancing, bands, dog show, clan challenge, celtic music, clans, merchants, scotch seminar, formal gala, food and fun! Come support the Clan Graham by joining us at the tent and marching in Sunday’s Parade of Tartans. Spectators looking for clan affiliation are often encouraged by clans with larger numbers, representing strength. Parking is free. Tickets to the games are not available via the Clan Graham. Tickets and Patron Packages are available for pre-order via http://www.gsfg.org before May 13. Games tickets will also be sold on-site at the games.
